University Beach Project consists of the construction of infrastructure improvements, event center, lagoon, beach club, water park, and resort including a hotel to be built in Northport, Alabama. The Project will result in new job creation.

The Project has begun construction in Northport, Alabama, within the University Beach master-planned district, adjacent to the University of Alabama and the Black Warrior River. The development will include lagoon-style waterfront amenities, event space, and residential components, creating a destination resort environment designed to serve university visitors, conference attendees, corporate travelers, and regional tourists.

Located in greater Tuscaloosa and in close proximity to the University of Alabama, which enrolls approximately 38,000 students, the Project benefits from significant year-round visitation driven by academics, collegiate athletics, conferences, and tourism.

The development is approximately 60 miles southwest of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport and benefits from strong regional highway connectivity supporting both business and leisure travel throughout Alabama and neighboring Southeastern states.

The surrounding metropolitan area is supported by major employers including Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Nucor Steel, and Michelin. The diversified regional economy anchored by education, manufacturing, healthcare, and tourism provides stable demand drivers for hospitality and conference accommodations.

This is why the city of Northport has decided to invest into this public works project to provide the needed infrastructure to the area including hotel rooms, infrastructure, and public amenities.  In addition to being administered by a public government entity, the Project includes public improvements to be constructed as part of the Project, which will subsequently be owned and operated by the City of Northport.

About the Developer

University Beach Improvement District of Northport, Alabama

University Beach Improvement District is the Project’s Job Creating Entity responsible for job creation. The District is a public corporation formed by the City of Northport, Alabama as an Alabama improvement district on September 24, 2024. The District was established to facilitate economic development, tourism, job creation, and public infrastructure improvements within the city of Northport.
